Well basically finding two abandoned cats means some sort of luck? I guess maybe you found something you could care for.
Your minds probably telling you that though you wish to care for both of them, you cant prevent the death of one.
Now that ones gone, and the other too . You're asking, why didnt you remove the trap?
Well basically you're telling yourself not to get overwhelmed by grief. Because you still have something after one cat died, that something is the other cat. And basically, if you do not get over your grief and set your mind straight, you might lose both good things too. (That means the 2nd cat)
So the bottom line is : Be careful, be on your toes even if grief happens, because.. ALL IS NOT LOST. Good luck!

To see a mouse trap in your dream, denotes that you need to be cautious of shady people around you who have designs against you.
To dream that you are setting a mouse trap, signifies that you will outwit your opponents.
To see a cat caught in the trap, signifies that you will fall into the hands of your rivals.
To see a cat in your dream, signifies much misfortune, treachery, and bad luck. However, for the cat lover, cats signifies an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. If the cat is aggressive, then it suggests that you are having problems with the feminine aspect of yourself. If a cat is biting you, then it symbolizes the devouring female. Perhaps you are taking and taking without giving. You may be expressing some fear or frustration especially when something is not going as planned. If you see a cat with no tail, then it signifies a lost of independence and lack of autonomy.
To see a white cat in your dream, denotes that you are going through difficult times. If you see a black cat in your dream, then it indicates that you are experiencing some fear in using your psychic abilities and believing in your intuition. You may erroneously associate the black cat with evil, destruction, and bad luck.
Got that?

The cats are habits that you have that your subconscious mind is telling you to let go. Your mind is telling you that these habits are not going to be easy to let go. The death in a dream means change. By letting go there will be great change because of your tears. These habits are ones that you are now letting go or need to. You are the only one who could know without more info. Dreams are always only about you. I may be contacted if you need more help. I am a teacher of the mind and dreams.

This reminds me of a dream that made me decide not to have children. I won't go into details because it's sick but the dream I had seemed to bring out an aspect of my personality that greatly disturbed me.
The cats could be symbolic of something else. Or it could be nothing more than a weird dream. It happens sometimes.
Does the dream force you to confront somethings about yourself like my dream? If it does that was the purpose of the dream.

I think the cats represent your wants/desires/ambitions/hopes and the poisonous mousetrap stands for the same old obstacles that are always killing those goals. I think it's saying; you'll never realize any happiness (cats) until you find and remove your obstacles.

Dreams can be interpretted in many ways, and only you can understand them. But try a few of these:
Are you really happy with the cats? Or do you regret taking them in? (Your dream may express your desire for them to "go away").
Are you afraid you don't really know how to care for them? And you worry about making stupid mistakes that will injure them?

This dream sounds like your fear of relationships. It could be a fear of dating or of being a mother someday. It sounds like your dreams are trying to tell you that you are afraid of letting someone down.
Dreams are your minds way of working out stressful issues in your life. So, just because the cats died in your dream, doesn't mean you will go kill cats. It means youre scared of getting close to people because youre just going to let them down.

I'm no dream analyst, but it sounds to me like you're a kind person who worries about hurting others. You do you're best and somehow, for some reason, you don't feel that's good enough.
Just keep love in your heart and work with that.

I'm not sure if you have children or not - but this sounds like your longing to be a mother and bring out your maternal instincts combined with your fear of being a bad mother.
