Is it possible to have a world in which God doesn't exist?

Sam: I'm not asking if it's likely. I'm asking if it's possible for a world to exist that doesn't have God in it.

I'm not trying to attack anyone. I'm honestly just trying to get people's views on whether God's existence is a necessary truth or not.

I suppose it is possible and that all of these things of faith are constructs of the mind.

God or not, we should still strive to love one another and seek the well being of all humans.

Also we should explore the galaxy and settle other planets. But that's another story... Sorry, I'm all hyper today, you know why.

I guess the same conviction that an atheist has in believing that no god exists is the same conviction that I, as a theist, have in believing that God does exist. To me it does seem that God exists so i live my life as if there is God,the Creator.Just as you might admit that there is the possibility of a god but then realize that is absurd. Is probably the same way i might admit the possibility of no God but then realize that is absurd. Therefore i return to my conclusion of a Creator as you would to your conclusion of no Creator. As much evidence as there is to you for no Creator there is evidence for me for our Creator.Usually the thing is, that no amount of evidence, contrary of what one has found to be true in ones own personal experience, will sway ones decision in the opposite direction.

It's possible that the god of the bible does not exist. Having been taught that god is great, all powerful and knowing, it's difficult to reconcile this kind of god to having created man.

Why would this kind of god want to surround himself by the inhabitants of earth!

God exists here on earth and lives in the hearts of the believers. Leave this earth and you will find only darkness (death).

If, on the other hand, there is a greater power somewhere in the universe should he be called "god"...

Yes it possible
Nope, just a personal one
No. There ill always be gods running around. Many people seek out spirituality and in that they find religion. There will always be people out there who want to and do believe in a higher being or beings and are content with it. I don't minds gods existing, obviously, but I do hope there comes a day where religion isn't one the top reasons for war and death.

God only exists if you believe he exists. I read that "God is the great human idea". I choose to believe that God exist in my world. I say my world because that's what it is..mine. Yours or anyone else's world is exactly what they believe it to be. Good question. It says more than you might realize about your own spirituality.

Of course! Is there any hard evidence to prove there is a God? That's why it's all "faith" - you're believing in something that may or may not exist. People who believe have faith that God does exist. Not sure Charles Darwin believed in God for example!

"exist" takes on a Clintonian definition.

at some minimal level, any god "exists" as a concept, just as the notion of my perfect autumn weekend exists as a concept (but never gets executed 100% as I'd like).

All any of us are really doing, regardless of the level we "believe" (or in my case, suspend disbelief) is creating one or more personifications of an admittedly subjective (non-provable) aspect of the universe to which we attribute some degree of spiritual significance.

I think God exists. I don't think a world in which God doesn't exist is possible. Now, if you ask me my concept of God, then, I am considered by many as an atheist, by others as the "devil" worshipper, by my close friends as a "spiritualist,"...

Of course it is possible - do we have any real proof or evidence ...?
Not really!

I think a lot of people make religion such a HUGE proirity in their lives that they end up MISSING out on what is really happening in this world!

Frankly, I would never feel obligated to go to church, etc... because I think it is very hypocritical of people to spend any amount of time in a church, then go out and SIN all day long ...
I mean, really ... ???

[BTW, I was raised in a Catholic home, and was forced to go to a Catholic school ... and I am now revolting because of it !!!!]
lol

Yes it's possible. But possible doesn't make it true. I liked it when that was said in Paper Moon when Addie kept insisting that it was possible Moze was her Dad because they had the same jaw. He comes back with that line and "I once knew a lady who looked like a bullfrog but it doesn't mean she was the damn thing's mother".
