Lozzo- I hope by "outsider" it means you do not live in America and none of your prosperity, security, or quality of life (medicine, entertainment, movies, music) is connected in any way to America- then, and only then will you have the right to demean the Veterans who made the USA possible.

Pavarott:
The veterans are not the ones allowing our freedoms to be denigrated- the fault for that falls upon those elected to political office and especially to those who elected them and are allowing them to remain in power.

Most of the people and occupations you espouse as as more worthy of respect than the soldier would not exist as anything more than mere slavery were it not for those willing to fight for freedom against those who would dominate us.
There are several occupations that are disdainful, yet make modern civilization possible- the "garbage man" is one we could not live without- as is the American soldier.

And, alas, a question for you: "What are YOU doing other than whining, complaining, and blaming others, to stop our liberties from being snuffed out- one law at a time?"

Lozzo,
You are probably right about the lack of respect our soldiers receive outside the USA. Others only tend to see what Amercia has NOT done for them or things we have attempted that turned out badly or had unintended consequenses- all wars and conflicts are bad things. The soldier prepares for war but prays for peace.
The strength of our military (along with our allies and our enonomic strength) prevented the USSR from attaining world domination- score one for us!

American sodiers are (for the most part)professional, compassionate individuals hoping to use their strength to protect our country and it's allies from those who would do us harm. If only I could say the same about the majority of our political leaders who choose the conflicts we engage in.

I feel honored that they had the courage to do what so many of us can't/won't do. Yet when they get home, back on American soil, and they have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or problems getting their old jobs back, or just plain ole adjusting to being back home, how much does America do for them. They saw things that us civilians could never even imagine, and yet what do I see when I go out and about, so many American Veterans, in a wheelchair, with one leg, half a leg, no legs, one arm, etc, and what do we as America n's do when we see this. We turn out heads, we don't help them find jobs, we don't help integrate back into society, do we look the other way when we see that they are homeless. I seriously wish our great nation of ours would do for our Veterans what they did for us. Protect them, honor them, take care of them, acknowledge and take care of their needs. So many of our American Veterans never even got the chance to be just that because they died so far away from their home soil, so the "lucky" ones that made it back home, come on let's as American citizens step up to the plate and at least tell them thank you. Write to your state Representatives, your Governor, your Congress, to the President of the United States. Let's us not turn our backs on the very people that made it possible for us to even have a home called America.

Hi,
Today you stood tall. Today you protected us. Today you showed what it means to be brave. Today you were a living example of courage. Today many of us are here because of you. Today we will forever remember you and today we’ll forever be thankful for you

Lozzo, I DO take offense to your statement. If you are an outsider, as you put it, and do not appreciate Veterans and what this country stands for then get out. I hear they have great mortgage rates in Iraq.

Now onto the question. I am proud to be an Army Vet's wife. Our vets are very special people and did a huge duty to this country. God Bless all of you.

Our American Veterans, both gone and here, fought for the rights we have now. To freely express ourselves, live with pride and have the right to choose how we live those lives. Our Veterans deserve only our utmost respect for giving up so very much. Enough is not done for them, by our government, and by other Americans, Give a Soldier a Hug and Thank Him/Her for fighting for us all.........I do when I see a Soldier, and they do appreciate it. (I do ask first) May God Bless all our Veterans, and KEEP THEM ALL SAFE.

I drive them to their doctor appts. one day a week. I drive 420 miles and spend 15 hours with them. I am very proud of them and what they have done to protect us while we stay here in our comfy little homes while they are not sleeping and defending us. I do my job as a volunteer. It is the lleast I can do after what they have done for all of us.

being a vet myself, i can say the majority of vets did what we did to secure freedom for all who wished to have it.. everyone should know and realize that the cost of freedom is not free. i am proud to say i am a veteran of the united states air force, and prouder still of the americans that tell me they appreciate the freedoms they have
