Today about 75% of Swedes belong to the Church of Sweden, but the number is decreasing by about 1% every year, and Church of Sweden services are sparsely attended (hovering in the single digit percentages of the population).[67] The reason for the large number of inactive members is partly that until 1996, children became members automatically at birth if at least one of their parents were a member. Since 1996, all children that are baptised become members. Some 275,000 Swedes are today members of various free churches (where congregation attendance is much higher), and, in addition, immigration has meant that there are now some 92,000 Roman Catholics and 100,000 Eastern Orthodox Christians living in Sweden.[68] Due to immigration, Sweden also has a significant Muslim population. As many as 500,000 are Muslims by tradition[69] and between 80,000 - 400,000 of these are practising Islam. (See also Islam in Sweden)
According to the most recent Eurobarometer Poll 2005,[70] 23% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god", whereas 53% answered that "they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force" and 23% that "they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, god, or life force".
I get that to be 23% Atheist.

Atheists are not known for persecution of Christians. Religious people persecute each other.
edit: I know my history, especially seeing that I come from socialist Germany (id est GDR). Let me rephrase my statement: generally it is the religious that persecute each other. Atheists and agnostics leave others be - MOST OF THE TIME. The persecution of Christians is, compared to the persecution of other religions through Christians, a very short time in history.
And of course, the Russians had a political system that allowed this (and was not working). Last time I checked, Sweden was a social-democratic country, so I wouldn't compare those.

First, i'm a Christian. 2nd, O'Reilly and Beck: no... (i do no longer renowned Rush Limbaugh on theory on my own). third and finally, i do no longer think of i might say Atheist's are persecuting Christians plenty as i might say the stress is on the separation of Church and State (i.e. preserving the government out of our church homes). there replaced into at the instant a bill (i'm too lazy to locate the bill style precise now) that should tension privately funded Christian radio stations to grant air time to anti-Christian and different non-Christian POVs. like the assumption or no longer this is a contravention of the 1st modification. it is particularly what i think of the problem is, yet Fox information does not precisely adhere to journalistic integrity (no longer completely trouble-free, yet i visit assert it besides).

Not really, by the way Communist Russia persecuted christians to erode the Orthodox church that the Czars empowered during their reign (much like the Church of England). Not because they weren't atheists.

I couldn't find much on the net about this.
I did read that many Christians from Arab nations are flocking to Sweden because of severe persecutions (peace loving people) by their homelands.

where do you get your statistics from? Please quote your source. Just a short look showed a couple of sites which claim that about 80% of the swedish people are church members. They may not go to church, but they are Christian at least in name, which means that they are not going to persecute other Christians...

Persecuted as in actually persecuted, or persecuted as in a Christian's concept of "persecution", which is what most people would describe as "minor inconvenience"?

normally atheists are the one who are persecuted so when the shoe is on the other foot, I don't think they will because they know how it feels to be maimed and hated. They won't cause other misery out of meanness too.

Christians in Sweden are force to bleach their hair blond, while atheists are free to have the regular, black and curly hair style.
