People have been killing in the name of God for years, The bible is full of usless murders in the name of God. If there was a God/gods he does not sound very loving and kind to me

As a Christian I understand your criticism fully. The OT was of course written over 2000 years ago in a culture very different to our own, one that we could fairly call primitive. They did not understand what we do about the value of life, and were motivated by mislead by an idea of a God that was biased towards them. We must not take everything in the bible as literal (this is the beginning of fundamentaliam) but analysise our way through it and find what God wants us to.
You are totally right that many people today are doing the same thing, and so in the same way it is my opinion that thier beliefs are also primitive. God does not endorse any killing, and no race or nationality is the sole Children of God. If you think that God favours you and your ways in preference to someone else's, then you have lost your humility and are not acting as God instructs.
A good question, which highlights the need for Christians like myself to look at ourselves and not be hypocritical.
All the best.

There is quite a different dynamic today.
God commanded Israel to kill the inhabitants of the land they were going in to possess.
The Israelites are described as being a faithless, stiff-necked and rebellious people. God said he would remove the people from the land, but they did not believe him, so God left it in their hands to do, and like everything else, they messed that up also.
If you were a Christian, you would have the faith God is looking for, and God would have no need to tell you to kill anyone for any purpose, seeing as God can resolve issues on your behalf.
If you indeed were told to kill people, thinking it was God doing so, you would be wrong. God fights the battles for the Christian, and not the Christian fighting the battles for God.

God certainly told His people to drive out and kill other nations in what was a war situation. Others were killed as a requirement of the laws of those days but I can't remember reading of one instance where God commanded someone to go and murder another. So on that basis I'd have to suggest you'd heard wrong.

I do not think that you can compare the Old Testament writings with the New Testament message. Though God is a vengeful God----He tempers His vengence (Vengance is mine saith the LORD) with His unflagging love and forgiveness that came with the birth of His only begotten Son.
Remember, Jesus told us to love one another. And He told us if we have broken one commandment we have broken them all. We no longer live under legalism. We live under grace.
If you hear God talking to you and He is telling you to kill someone----you might want to ask Him to come back at another time when your meds have kicked in. :-) (I am kidding of course.)

No. Wrong. Stop taking things out of context.
Consider it this way: if I, as a Christian, held a gun to your head and told you that God has commanded me to kill you would you be content with my assertions?

I'd believe that you have deep psychological problems, and that you have been poisoned by your irrational Christian beliefs; and if I had the power I'd lock you up and throw away the key (I'm still waffling on capital punishment).

I'm not Christian. But I say that anyone who kills because God told them to do is commiting blasphamy. How can they presume to know what God wants. That's arrogant. They will burn.

People these days THINK they have heard God tell them to kill, but they don't know that it's satan whispering in their ears or even their own Idea. Its really sad.
