I'm thinking about getting my wife that .410/.45 colt revolver that Taurus is putting out. The Judge, they call it (which seems, to me, a stupid name for anything - but whatever).

She's a little concerned about the recoil from such a large caliber out of a 4" barrel and, having never fired one, I don't know what to tell her. I know it will be very different from my .45 ACP, but I need a comparison to something else.

Don't just say "it's not too bad" or "it's pretty stiff". Give me good, solid, comparisons please.

Thanks!

45 LC as factory loaded is pretty mild. Very similar ballistically to 45 ACP; that was the intention when 45 ACP was created. 45LC shoots a 250 gr. bullet at about 800 fps, the ACP a 230 at about the same speed. Recoil should be similar in similar-weight guns. Beware, though of high-performance 45 LC loads-some of these are very powerful

The .410/45 LC revolver can be a good weight and recoil for a female shooter if they can handle a large weapon. The Thunder 5 might be a better choice as with a 3 lb handgun the recoil will not be felt as heavily. As with any comparison of recoil vs. load is determined also by the weight of the weapon it is being fired from.

I have only read about the Taurus but if I recall correctly it is lighter than the Thunder 5. This would typically indicate that the recoil would be heavier out of the Taurus then.

Felt-recoil from a 45 Colt revolver is similar to a 45ACP but not as forceful. 45 Colt velocity is anywhere from 700-900 FPS with factroy loads depending on barrel length. Neither 45 guns have a sharp recoil (due to low velocity). Heavy slow movers (.45ACP, .45 Colt, .44 SPL, etc.) have noticeable recoil due to bullet weight more than velocity. Sharp recoil comes from either a small high-velocity round or a big bore magnum. Realize that if she is new to firearms even a .38 SPL can be a challenge. I saw a woman at the range once flnching with a Taurus 85 firing standard velocity loads.

Try looking into a gun called Thunder 5. It is the origional .410 revolver. Much better design. Has a recoil of a .38 special. REALLY light. Perfect for a woman.
Hope that helps\

10mm has much less cringe yet slightly annoying to discover rounds, because of the fact's variety of no longer a around that a lot of human beings use, and its extra of a private protection around, in case you do no longer innovations revolvers i could look on the taurus choose shoots a .40 5 long colt and a .410 shotgun around, its what i take advantage of for sidearm, and that i like it, and did I point out it shoots .410 that includes chook shot, buckshot, slug, its fairly plenty undesirable ***.

not to long ago I was at the range shooting my 460 S&W and I decided to shoot a 45 LC out of it.It hardly had any recoil at all and it wasn't very loud.I don't know if it was because I was shooting 460s before and I was expecting a big bang with some kick.
