I don't know why but although my girlfriend brushes her teeth 3-5 times a day, her breath stinks not when she breathes out of her mouth but when she exhales through her nose and it's almost unbearable. I don't know how to tell her or why it would smell so bad. Now that I think of it, stinky sinuses doesn't have anything to do with brushing your teeth. Why would this be happening and how can I tell her without her feeling bad.

She doesn't know she has got bad breathe because she was accustomed to it.
the bad smell actually comes from the back of the mouth, near the throat, she may have cleaned her teeth, but did she scrap her tongue?
There're lots of bacteria on the tongue also.
most of the time it's caused by gum disease. You will have to get her to visit the dentist.
Maybe you could say you yourself need to see a dentist, but asked her along to accompany you?

1. Does she smoke? If so, that's the reason.
2. Does she have a stomach problem or bad tooth? Bad you said it's from the nose. are you sure? Because I've never heard of anyone's nose to stink.
3. Ask a doctor, and once you find what may be possibly worng, just tell her you noticed there is a smell coming from her breath that could indicate such and such and that she should test such and such. It is more polite that telling her that she stinks, that sounds like an accusation, while what I am telling you shows you care for her health.

She may have an underlying condition, she should go to the doctor and have them check her out, I think there are some illnesses that cause bad breath
does she floss her teeth and use mouth wash?
is she a smoker?

It may be coming from her stomac or check for a cavity there may be food in there. My breath smells bad also. My own dog will not come around me.

If she have bad sinuses and she realise it maybe you should ask her to see doctor rightaway, you can talk her out of it. Coz I think she can not smell what you smell, so it's better you let her know....the sooner the better.....

This might be an easy fix. Find out what type of vitamins she's taking. Vitamins like garlic, basil, etc. could be causing this.

its better if you tell her rather than other person. shes your girl friend right? so dont hesitate to tell. then consult a doctor.
