I agree it's going too far. After all by forbidding the Bible in schools are they not essentially endorsing Atheism. Then again I can also be viewed as religious discrimination. They don't seem to discriminate against other religions only Christianity. I know they can be annoying in the way they try to force their values on America but this is just ridiculous.

Children can read the Bible in school. They can read it in study hall, free time, etc... What usually is not done in public school is that teachers endorse the Bible or teach it unless it is done so objectively as part of a world history or religion class. This is because public school is not about pushing or endorsing any particular faith based system. It is about giving children of a variety of backgrounds an education. Parents can instruct their children in beliefs. People can go to church or other services that represent their beliefs. Prisoners are also allowed like school children to read the Bible as part of not obstructing their right to their beliefs. They aren't allowed to compel other prisoners to share their beliefs. Nor are guards supposed to preach to prisoners nor compel them in their personal beliefs. Same rules.

In prison, its a personal choice that they are aware of and understand in personal detail with experience to back them up, children do not have that and simply imitate what their parents do without really understanding why. Not to mention that adults can control themselves a little better (though admittedly, if they're in prison, not much better), while children are often nasty little suckers with little conscience and very cruel to each other over stupid little things. Handing children a bible is like telling them to follow it and be cruel to others, because the bible is one of the most cruel books in the world and worse, it pretends to be the truth, so children think its ok to follow it. Even if the book does say they should kill witches.

Are the rest of your days outside of school hours spent reading the bible and worshiping?Obviously not, some of it is on here arguing. When you simply don't have enough time OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS,because that is all you really want to do,possibly you would have a minute point. It isn't really about that though,AFTER school, you really don't spend that much time. Why then, when you waste precious time out of school NOT reading the bible,do you wish it to be read IN SCHOOL?Could the truth be that you are spiritually lazy, you aren't really wanting to read the bible so badly, you simply want to impose your religion on others? If that is NOT the case, why are you not reading the bible now?Explain please

It's all rigged that we get converted eventually!!
You see, if we don't learn anything Christian in school and its principles, we are more likely to land in jail later ... then we get to read the Bible; then we get converted anyway!
OR perhaps, by the point of tragedy, the professionals are so desperate to succeed that they have to finally be honest about it all that the Bible really was a help anyway!

Children can read the bible in school. In fact in can be taught there now. Under new legislation many schools are now using the bible as optional curriculum. I believe Georgia is one of the states leading the way. There are curriculums that have been approved for school use. If citizens had any guts they would tell judges who restrict it to go to hell.

I actually took a course in high school called "the Bible as Literature". This one girl always read god's name as YooHoo. Can't make something like that up.
And you can read whatever you want, you just aren't allowed to teach the religion as though it were fact.
Oh, and I just want to add, that children DO go to school to learn myths. Egyptian, Greek, and Roman are the most commonly taught. They wouldn't be allowed to teach them as though the myths were the truth, rather than an example of cultural thoughts, that's all.

Where do you get the idea that children can not read the bible in school? I believe it is something you made up since it just isn't true.

Stop exaggerating. No one can prevent anyone from reading a Bible in school unless the student is doing it during class when he/she should be paying attention to what's being taught. It's teacher-led prayer which is not allowed. Your child can pray whenever he/she feels like it. It just cannot be led or required.

Kids can read the bible in school, they just have to do it on their own time.
I don't think prison wants to take prayer and the bible out....They have it bad enough already.
edit: and I was taught about the Greek Gods, and Aesop's fables in school....so for the poster that said, we aren't in school to learn fables, we do.
