The above answers are correct -- with ONE caution.
Plug your computer in first -- see what LOCAL addresses are being issued. You should be able to check that by clicking - Start -- Run type cmd in the line.. they type "ipconfig /all" that should show you your computer IP and the Gateway address.

When you setup your router be sure your local settings use an entirely different IP range.
If the school is using 192.168.1.1 then set your local network to use 10.0.0.1 etc. or vice versa.
JUST DONT TRY THE SAME RANGE IT WON'T WORK CORRECTLY!

An additional caveat to all these answers: check with the university to see if this is allowed. They may have rules banning the use of Wi-Fi routers in order to reduce traffic loads on the network.

All you need is a wireless router. Connect that to your ethernet jack, and presto!
