Because they have time to be choosy and fondle fresh bread, everyone else just grabs what they want and runs to the till.

As the owner of a small convenience store (no I'm not a so called ethnic minority) I can tell you first hand that it's not just old people nor confined to groceries.
I asked a 20(+) yr old why he picked up a can of lager, put it down and picked up another identical 500ml can.
The second one he said felt heavier but when I asked why he didn't try all 120 cans in stock he said it would be embarrassing to do so. There seems no rhyme nor reason to it and many people say that one can/packet/pack (etc.) in particular appeals to them more than the other (apparently identical )ones.
Maybe it's a slight colour preference which stems from the human eye rather than the product itself.

Well, I'm not old yet but I touch the bread to find a fresh loaf. I look through the produce to find the best fruits or veggies. It is just taking the time to get the best for your dollar. I guess if you don't care what you put in your body you could just grab whatever.

Too see if it is overcooked, or fresh, or stale. Or because she is fussy about some other aspect of the loaves provenance. (actually I love buying the hottest loaf that I can find.
I hope that the bread was wrapped, maybe you should've told her that you had fondled all the loaves as well, but had forgotten to wash your hands after visiting the wc.

Good question, I live in a town that has a major amount of seniors, probably 80 percent of the town. It takes me forever to get my groceries because they either stand in the middle of the aisle and talk away to each other or hem and haw over every little thing htey pick up to buy.

They have a lot of time on their hands... My grandpa was the same exact way. When I was little, he'd go to the grocery store and tell me to wait in the car- he'd just be 5 minutes. After 30 minutes I went in to look for him and he was still in produce, examining every piece of fruit there was. lol.
My grandma used to get so mad at him because he took so long. God, I miss him.

She was probably making sure that the ingredient's used to make the bread was good bread ingredients.
Bread can be made from all kinds of genetically engineered shite these days.
Mostly, there is always 'method' in what may seem to you to be madness.

To make sure they have made the best choice.
I also examine all my groceries because I am an impulse buyer and I keep buying things that I don't need.
