What pen do people use to draw picture that will be scanned into computer?

Example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/80/Garfield.JPG

I noticed that the ink size is just nice and has a consistent thickness. Do they use tablet pc to create cartoon image like this?

If yes, what is the traditional method to modify the picture to look like this when they are scanned into the computer?

Thanks people. Any advice will be appreciated.

For a consistent line you want a Rapidograph or other technical pen. If you want something you can vary by pressure use a crow quill or a brush with India Ink. You can buy all of this at an art supply store.

Edit:
Garfield looks like he was drawn with a brush to me.

I think the artist of this character used a traditional ink drawing pen.

Many use these, while others use a mechanical drawing pen, like the Rapid-O-Graph, for a more even, consistant line.

I have used these, and other solutions, but, currently, I ink with an ordinary Sharpie Marker. It makes a nice, solid black line that dries, almost, instantly, minimizing smears. It is ready for scanning the moment the drawing is done.

I also use a graphics tablet for some freehand drawing. (a cheap, Wacom Pen Partner. I have also, recenty purchased an inexpensive DigiPro tablet for may grand daughter's computer. It was $49 for TWO of them, from Computer Geeks (www.geeks.com) Works great!

To answer your question, all artists will use what works best for what they need. The best artists will not limit themselve to work with only one tool, as it only limits the solutions they can offer to any project.

I, for one, will not turn away a client because I can't produce the look they want. Not if I can help it.

Any stable, black ink will do. My particular sought after gadget is an uncomplicated Sharpie marker. the actual trick is to confirm the gaps are closed earlier you test. in case you think of that fantastic lines are the reason at the back of the venture, you could could desire to play with the scanner's controls concerning "threshold," to confirm the test captures each little bit of ink. If that isn't achieveable, then, interior the scanned photograph, you could could desire to enlarge each component to the drawing, and "paint" black components to fill interior the gaps earlier filling in colored components.
