Being a veteran of thirty-four years myself several things come immediately to mind. A good, firm handshake and serious "Thank you for serving and everything you have done for us and our country." goes a long way if you say it with sincerity. If they are by themselves, single, and elderly taking five minutes of your valuable time and asking them about what they did and how they served will mean a lot to them. Not only that you will find some have some very interesting stories and will tell you some things that you have probably never realized or thought about concerning what they did while serving. If you know them take them to lunch! Who does not like to have lunch bought for them! Any of these things or similar type things will count and mean something if they are done with the proper sincerity and from the heart on your part and show it. Thank you for asking and great question!

respect or maybe some free time at a local homeless station because criminally lots of vets do not have the support to keep themselves together after the transition to civilian life and it us a real problem which we should be embarrassed about and be doing something to help them. id rather adopt a vet ( you know give something regularly to make life a little better)than adopt a pet.

Vacation brochures. Lol.
The most common lament of vets is that they can never take off for vacation. These bunch of dedicated professionals hardly take time off.
