Most men are not aggressors - they are happy to pursue their productive values, which is impossible if they are fighting for their freedom to pursue their productive values. However, this is not true of all men - there are men with ideologies that want to destroy the freedom of others. Often, but not always, they are religious fanatics.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -- John Stuart Mill

Who is the "we" in this question? Peace, to me, means a balance of good and bad. It is a nothing state of being. "We" don't seem to embrace this state of being.

Maybe we just crave/want what we can't have.
