Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

There are several. the favourite in Europe for millenia is valerian (Valeria officinalis). The problem is that it tastes awful, but you get tablets and tinctures in health food shops that have something added to take most of the evil taste away.
Limeflower (Tilia cordata or Tilia platyphylla), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and camomile (Matricaria recutita) are also plants with a long standing as sleep inducing plants, the Greeks have used flowering lettuce since the times of Hyppocrates, which is said to work a treat. You have to be careful with the lime and lemon balm if you have low blood pressure, or an allergy to pollen. I tried them all except for the lettuce, and they worked for me, best as a mixture of the 3 or ready made as Dr Stuart's "Tranquility" tea. If you are coming off a constant use of sleeping pills they might take a week or so to kick in, except for the Valerian. And sometimes it helps if you simply avoid caffeine, i.e. tea, coffee, coke and cocoa products for several hours before you go to sleep, or even altogether.
Edit:
Please do NOT try to make your own valerian root decoction, you might poison yourself, go for a ready made tincture or the tablets.
And I nearly forgot the best of all: Take a bath with lavender oil, or lavender flowers, and put a handful of epsom salts into the bath water. Works for most people.

Valerian root extract. It is available at most health food stores or holistic pharmacies. I recommend the extract over the tea simply because making a Valerian root infusion takes careful preparation to avoid the substance turning toxic.

Valerian is excellent, but i tend to prefer using essential oils. Try neroli & lavender on a vaporiser, or inhale it by placing 2 drops of each on a tissue, tucking it inside your pillow slip.

tryptophan which is high in fresh turkey, is a natural sedative. that is why we feel tired after eating a turkey meal. It also helps us feel full.
Have a sliice or two of turkey before bed. Besides its good protein.
