Wireless Access Points (WAP) can be connected to any router just like connecting a computer! You do connect to the LAN ports not the internet port.

So the setup would be DSL/CABLE ---> router ---> AP the router comes FIRST before the AP.

AP's do not route, they just add wireless connectivity to a non-wireless system or add additional wireless connection points to a system with wireless. Whether you connect to a regular routers LAN ports (which are switched outlets from the router) or to a switch inside the system is totally up to you.
You still need a router somewhere in the system for multiple computer connections!

In fact once the router is in place you can put AP's connected to other APs all over a city to deliver wireless coverage in mass scale.

WAP is a protocol used by cellular phones for internet browsing. Your question makes no sense, try explaining. And the encryption is WPA not WAP.
