I believe that a phoenix cries or solemnly wails before being engulfed in flames and then rising from the ashes. All birds have a cry however it is only the phoenix that I know to cry before death/rebirth.

Ummm..... there's the death bird but that only brings terror-
and there's the thunder bird..... maybe the phoenix?
But there's always the Sirens and the Harpies.
Personally, I'd go for the Harpies

a phoenix.
when it cries its lament (song), it then bursts into flames and is reborn from its ashes.

*yeh, i know. i read way toooo much Harry Potter*

The phoenix is a mythical sacred firebird in ancient Phoenician mythology.
The phoenix has proved an enduring allegorical symbol, symbolising rebirth, renewal or uniqueness and often appears in modern popular culture.

hope that helps.
