Yes, fabric glue should work fine. There are some that say they are specifically for embellishments. You can find them at your craft store, fabric store or even walmart's craft section.

For patterns, I'm not sure what you want exactly. You could write a word or phrase (diva, shopping is my best subject...) or make a single initial for your name or something.
