I used to have a 1973 Mercury Capri. On the floor board to the left of the clutch was a button to trigger the windshield wiper - in the same place where older cars had the high beam switch. On the same car, the way you honked the horn was to push in the end of the turn signal lever.

This was the car I used to learn how to drive a stick. I'll never forget one of the first times I tried to stop at a stop sign I pushed in the clutch and all the sudden the windshield wipers start going and I pretty much panicked.

On one car, the control for the wipers was on the same side - and right next to - the control for my turn signals. Many, MANY times when approaching a light/stop, I would have my windshield wipers going - full blast, on a hot, summer's day!!
