Technically, yes. All states have laws governing the display of official placards. However, on my bike, I leave the license plate under the passenger seat. If a cop asks where it's at, I explain that it "fell off this morning." Reason being, should one ever book it from traffic cops, they won't have a clue as to who it was. The worst they will give you is an "improper display of license plate" fix-it citation. 10 Bucks writes it off in California.

You are supposed to display your license plates. The exact rules may vary from one jurisdiction to another, but you are subject to being stopped and ticketed if you don't show your plates. As far as I know this is true in every country in the world.

It is law in every state that the plate has to be visable unless it is a new car waiting for the title transfer. You will be stopped, and possibly have your car impounded. What would be the point of having your car tagged if we could keep them in the glove box? They are used to identify who owns the car to law enforcement officers.

No, by law, your license plate has to be seen .. WHY would you want to hide it, what's the big deal?
Are you wanted?
Did you do a hit and run?
I don't get it ..

Yes, it is illegal. But front license plate is not compulsory in all U.S. States whereas it is in most other countries.

Nope, you will be fined for driving an unidentified car! You must have your plate visible at all times while it is on the road.

if a license plate cannot be seen, you might as well tell the police this car is stolen, or phone it in, that would be quicker.
