I'm sure you haven't found a very reasonable answer here yet. Let me give you the answer-
Pokemon is addicting because you yearn for adventure and what is out there in the virtual Pokemon world. You want to see what things happen, like gym leaders, Pokemon, and events. Including trading, this makes Pokemon one of the best drugs to ever exist. Now finish reading this Yahoo reply, and get on your 3DS and start your Pokemon adventure.

Wow, I remember when I was a kid (back when there were only 150 pokemons) I used to watch the reruns before I took off for school. I traded cards, played the blue/red version with my gameboy, and woke up early to catch it on Saturday. It is addiciting because you get lost in their world for a while, but as you grow older, you'll get tired of it. You find yourself another hobby, another interest, in other words, well you grow up.

those thing are meant for you to get hooked into it. Like the previous comment is an adventure. They don not really beat the old sesame street which is educational and fun. They are also advertising so you will spend money on all the merchandise ..

I have no idea I've been playing the games for years but some people just don't like the games it all depends on if you like that certain game (ie. I'm addicted to World of Warcraft)
