My best friend dated this girl for about one year. There relationship was never that great but he is basically obsessed with her.

Well here we are TWO YEARS after they broke up and my friend and I are both in college (different schools about 3 hours away) and I go up there one weekend and low and behold she is there (she goes to a school near him).

Anyways. We get to drinking and talking and her and i end up kissing and becoming really good friends

Over the past month I have spoken with her a lot and went on a date with her and got to second base with her in her basement

Anyways. Long story short my best friend found out and he’s furious at me because “he loves her”.

what do you folks think I should do? i really like him as a friend but hes really ******* things up for me as far as my relationship with this girl becuase of his obsession. what can i do that will be good for everyone? how can i make him see that he is being selfish and full of false hope?

we are all 20

Boy o Boy...do you need a friend like him? Get the girl...forget the rest...tell him grow up!

Stop speaking with Sam. He knows you still love him and is using that to string you along. Friendships after break ups usually don't work, because one usually cares too much and has been hurt, and believes that being a friend keeps them around. Wrong. Show him that you can move on. It's the only way to recover.

Talk to him . But if you find it hard to communicate with your friend, find someone a little older someone that he respected and would listen ...
Tell him/her about the problem, about the relationship that started between you and the girl. Make him/her understand that both of you have developed a feeling for each other.
If you need the girl to talk also of how much you have learned to love each other and that it is not possible to start a relationship with your friend since she did not feel the same way, give her the chance to explain her real feelings.
Let the elder friend , (a relative maybe.....) encourage your friend to find someone else.....

No Matter the False Hope this man may have, if you truely value the friendship with him ... FORGET the girl !! Women are all over the place, there is no need to go for THAT ONE especially if you know is is emotionally hard for a Friend to cope with. Only you know where Your Own Loyalties Lie. Which one are you MORE willing to lose?

If you and her are getting somewhere....into relationship...i guess you should talk to your friend about it...be honest ...i mean i know its wrong to date your best friend ex but if it end up something i dont think its wrong esp you and her got to second base who knows whats next right?
It is an issue but i guess talk to the girl about it and if she chooses you ...then i guess you have to talk to your friend that your sorry , it wasnt suppose to be that way ..but it just did! and it just felt right....or better yet you and her confront him about you both so it would be easier for him to get the picture ...it will drive him mad and hurt but hey who says love is always joyful...and happy...!!it will take lots of time for him to get over it...but just hints beware of turning out into a love triangle...!!well you are in now....but just beware about the girl...somehow cause its the two of you chasing her!!

If you know what i mean..!!

How would you feel if it were you! I agree with the other answer is there a shortage of women? Remember what goes around comes around! You need to leave that ALONE!!!

Is there a woman shortage? Find yourself a girl of your own who didn't already share your best friend's bed.

He is your friend. You should respect that. How would you feel if you still had feelings for an ex and your friend did that to you? It is just plain wrong.

well maybe you can try to set him up with someone else and explain to him its been 2 years since it was over, but if you really really truly value your friendship with your friend, you should break up with the girl.
