My local theatre group are going to be putting on Oliver the musical and I want to audition for Fagan. The last time they performed it I should have got the part but was overlooked for a retired school teacher! What can I do to make sure I get it this time? What sort of accent should Fagan have?

Fagan is British. Listen to Ron Moody - he did the best Fagan ever imho.

I don't know what the director is looking for but what Sandy Meisner said about 'impediments' might help you. If you have an accent, you don't try to have one. You try to speak clearly but can't. Think of Fagan as having impediments. Practice attempting to talk without an accent, but have your accent get in the way. You can figure Fagan is from Eastern Europe. Find out what an Eastern European accent sounds like.
