A highly embellished one.

I think that in the real live version, some dude bumped into some chick.

The ship and sinking were real. Titanic sank on april 14, 1912. The characters are based on real life characters including the part of Rose. Molly Brown became known as "the unsinkable Molly Brown" and was the most famous person to survive before the making of the film. The makers of the movie did use some artistic liscence but the story is based on accounts of real people. If you are interested in more on the movie and the history of Titanic you may find it in my source. There are several books listed at the bottom of the history section.

well Titanic was a real ship and so was the story line
but if you mean Jack Dawson and Rose

then i can only say this

soon after the movie came out i heard something in passing.

Rose might have been a woman who visited the Russian ship (that ship actually did explore the titanic) in the 80's when the original explorer (robert something) first found the ship and was exploring it.

other then that your guess is as good as mine.

The story of Rose and Jack is a fictionalized one set against the backdrop of a true historical event. To be honest, I thought that movie was awful. It was like a pair of 1990s teens somehow got transported back to 1912, especially with their attitudes and the language they used. A much better movie about the Titanic sinking is "A Night To Remember".

Almost everything in the story is correct except the romantic relationship, there was a ship called the Titanic, it hit an iceberg and it sunk.

The ship and the story of it crashing is true, and kept fairly historically accurate. However, the story of Rose and Jack is fictional. Some of the other minor characters are based on real people who were on the Titanic.

yes the titanic is a real story, it sank on it's maiden voyage on april 14th 1912. although she hit an iceberg she would have never made it to new york as she was sinkin anyway because the bolts that were used were too small.
