Indiana Jones and the temple of doom?

Question

What happend to short round? He wasn't in or even mentioned in the sequals raiders of the lost ark or the last crusade. Indiana Jones seemed to be his "adopted father" so you think short round would be mentioned at the very least. Was there ever any explanation for this in the series that I missed?

Chronological order of the films is:
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Quite a bit of time is supposed to have passed between the first and second ones, so Harrison Ford had to play many years younger when he was in the first one. Obviously, his romance in the first film didn't last. And, Short Round is a mystery. If we consider the time period, Short Round likely did stay in the city/country he knew best. We're led to believe that Indy has a circle of friends and allies in many places. So, Short Round could crop up as a young man if there was a movie positioned between 1 and 2.

I'm certain a lot of fanzine stories have been written about the in-between adventures.

As for the young actor, he went on to "The Goonies" and "Encino Man", just to mention a couple of films. In "Temple of Doom", I think he's listed as Ke Huy Quan. In the "Encino Man" credits, he is Jonathan Quan.

This isn't lack of continuity. It simply gives us the impression of a lengthy adventure story from which we see only certain portions.

I think Raiders of the Losk Ark came first, then the Temple Of Doom, and then The Last Crusade. No, Indy wasn't his adopted father, but he did take care of him, and they were apparently close friends. And because The Last Crusade took place nowhere NEAR China, or India, that might explain it. Short Round was Chinese, and lived there, as seen in the very beginning of the movie.

Short Round was played by a Vietnamese child actor who probably outgrew the role before the next sequel was filmed.

Interestingly enough the lead actress in "Temple of Doom" wound up becoming the wife of director Steven Spielberg. I guess you could consider that a sort of sequel.
