Ha-ha. Too funny. I work in a restaurant but not the kind you obviously did. We're picky enough about food safety that nothing like that has the chance to happen, but I've heard horror stories. When we get customer complaints there's no animosity about it. They have the right but the repeats who are clearly out to scam "Oh ... I forgot I had an allergy to butter" and then again upon the second complaint. "Oh ... I forgot I had an allergy to wheat." The list goes on. Even with those ones we do our best to accomodate until our server informs us we "have a problem". You've worked in the restaurant biz so you know an honest complaint is the best you can hope for and take notice. Our cooks are grateful for the input and take great measures to correct the problem right away and not repeat it either. I wish all restaurants operated on the same code and without the ego interfering. We joke about pulling sick tricks but would never actually do it. Makes so much less of us. Have a little faith and do the right thing. Let them know. If it's even a half-decent joint you know darn well you get their respect for being honest. No spit your way.

I'll send it back. Like you, I'm nice about it. I always treat the waiter with respect.
I saw the movie "Waiting," and it's just sickening to think of what the cooks can do to your food.
By the way, I'll only send the food back if it's terrible, if it's not heated properly, or if it has a hair or something in it. If it has a hair in it, I really wouldn't want to get a new meal at this point because my appetite would be ruined.

It depends on whats wrong with it . If its not right , like not the right temperature , or overcooked or not cooked properly then send it back. If you just dont like it then sorry , but you have it removed and order something else .
In any good restaurant a staff member who interfers with food , like spitting , salting , using a dirty utensil is fired on the spot .

I make a practice to rarely eat out because Ive seen what goes on behind the scenes in restaurants. I prefer a home cooked meal.
But if I am in a nice restaurant and somethings not right I am very polite about it.

It depends on what the problem is. If it's minor, I usually don't say anything. If I end up with meat on my plate (I'm vegetarian), I do send it back but I'm polite about it. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often b/c I ask questions before ordering & many servers have gone out of their way to be helpful.

How wrong? The taste is midly unappetizing? Or the food is just BAD? If the food is that bad, I explain the problem and order something else in it's place... but if I eat it, and don't like it as a personal preference, I either grin and bear it or don't eat it at all without bothering anyone.

I usually just eat it unless it's something really bad...i.e. if I ask for no mayonnaise and they put it on anyway, I'll just eat it. But one time I asked for my steak to be cooked medium, and when I cut it, it was really red and so I touched it, and it was actually cool in the middle! That's very rare, not medium! So I of course sent that back and they got it right the next time.

depends on the severity of the mistake. If there are a couple tomatoes here and there that i didnt want, no prob. But if it's not hot and supposed to be, or something big like (tons of tomatoes) that then yes i'll be polite and ask to be remade

I always send it back, as a truck driver I live on the road so food is one of my comforts and is important to me. I'm always polite and clearly explain what's wrong.
I don't blame the waiter, he just hauls the food, it's the cook who goofed.
