If you are using your office email, it is not secure. I knew it because my boss monitors his staffs' emails. He used to use these emails as evidence to warn or fire the non performing staffs. On some system, it allows the certain email to be intercepted using keywords matching. If you want to chat or do private stuffs, use a private email. If your email content is extremely sensitive, I suggest you use www.hushmail.com

A word of advice - Don't chat or use your email for personal stuff during working hours. Some places do have the capability to monitor your computer use.

simple solution...basic encription would solve your worries. it comes cheaply and you can get it online like places at 88db - buy and sell. and if your boss ask why the encription, tell him you're testing on a new software and ask him subtly if he doesn't have anything else important to do...help you decript it :P

you should put your status in invisible mode so no one can see that you're online. there's also the stealth mode where you can turn yourself invisible to a specific person.
