I do it all the time... sort of a preemptive defense mechanism so it won't be too stressful when my final day comes... do you ever imagine what your final moments will be like?

No. That is just too morbid.

"Pre-emptive defense mechanism" - I like that. I have imagined death in many ways for similar and different reasons.
I have imagined how my family would survive financially.
I have thought about the pain my death would cause my family/friends?
I have wondered who would attend my funeral.
I have thought about whether or not I would be ready to have a "life chat" with God.
I don't worry so much about my last moments, but I do think a lot about leaving behind a legacy for my loved ones.
When you die...your body "lets loose" and everything quits pumping/functioning.
Die with dignity...but never contribute any actions that speed up the process of death. Don't take that privilege away from your Creator. We are too complicated to not have a purpose. One last thing: If you are thinking about death because you are depressed/suicidal seek professional help immediately.

No. Not any more.

You are going to die. This is a fact. Thinking about the death bed wont change that fact.

This next part is a bit of a platitude, but it's vitally important for you to digest it properly, so I will tell you what you already know:

Spending too much time thinking about death robs you of the time you could spend living. A better way to prepare for your death bed is to have lived your life to the fullest, so there are no lingering What-If questions.

I'm sure the What-If questions are what makes the deathbed a hard place to be in, so spend less time thinking about your deathbed, and more time working to clear up any What-Ifs while you're still able.

That was my conclusion, and my fear-of-death related depression has cleared up tremendously since I came to it.

When I pray God and ask for something,[ on rare occasions ] I ask him to give me a sudden death.I fully believe that He will be kind and give me a sudden death.I therefore never think of my death bed.
