I know a few of them that work in strip joints and they make no secret of the fact that they turn tricks on the side. I wouldn't say they were friends, but being in a small town where everyone knows everyone they are acquaintances

Now this is an interesting question and I don't know how full an answer to give you.
Not now. Previously I lived in the red-light district of Sydney and was involved in the alternative rock and roll music scene.
At that time a number of my friends were working - some on and off others fairly permanently - and so I actually knew quite a number of women (and a couple of men) in that profession.
I sense that maybe you think that there is some titilation in this question - but if that is the case you are sorely mistaken.
People are people wherever they are. They make their own choices in life and, as long as they don't hurt others, they have the right to live as they wish to live without prejudical remarks or actions from others because of those choices.

Prostitutes as by profession , no I don't know.
But I know some ladies who got married to someone who did not love, just because he was rich. This, for me, is prostitution.
I know some ladies who tell lies to their husbands about bills etc. so that they can get from him more money to spend for themselves. This, for me, is prostitution.
I know, there are some men too, doing exactly the same thing to their friends, lovers, mates, acquaintances. Whenever someone balances money with love, it is prostitution. My humble opinion.
