Depends on what State you're in. In MOST States, it's perfectly legal to fire someone for any reason not specifically prohibitted by law.

No, it's totally legal. Unless you work under a contract (or in a state with very unusual laws), you can be fired at any time for any legal reason (e.g. can't be fired for being a woman or other protected category, can't be fired for asking for accommodation for a disability, etc.). This is called at-will employment.
I recommend that your friend talk to her supervisor and find out what happened and whether there is any way that she can get re-hired. Could there have been a misunderstanding? Maybe the supervisor thought she was going to quit...

well noone has ownership of a job. You can be let go at any time..the thing is, you have to be given notice if you are past the probation period, which is 3 months where I am anyway..in Canada. I think laws are similar in the USA.
Even if she wasn't fired or let go, and they are just trying to phase her out or try to bully her into quitting..there is something called a constructive dismissal that would still make her eligible to get her "notice"
If the person has worked less than 3 months, then the compnay can let her go at any time for any reason and not have to give her a dime, other than her wages for time worked.
Laws in the USA are much stronger for this type of mistreatment than they are in canada..awards for mistreatment and so forth are very low in canada but good in the USA.

I agree with the first answer; however it depends on the state she is in also. If she is working in a state that does not require a reason to terminate it is really hard to go against a company on an issue such as this. I suggest that she talk to the EEOC to see what her options are.
I just want to add, please make sure she is telling you everything about that situation. If only want a transfer why; what reason do you want to transfer, possibly more to the story. Just my thought on this issue.

Anyone that works can get fired pretty much any- time without warning......and they don't have to give a reason.........OK, so there are people that hold high high positions and probably have the money to fight.........most of us don't bother.........just go look for another job.

It depends. Was she on probabtion. Did her contract say they can let her go at any time for no reason. I just started a job and am on probabtion for 1 yr. During that year they can let me go for any reason and they dont have to tell me.

Unless you are specifically covered by an employment contract, you can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Forget it and move on.
