According to a poll conducted by ESPN the Auburn Vs Alabama game is the greatest college rivalry. I would agree also due to the fact college football is everything in Alabama. The teams from other states have to compete with Professional football and other professional teams. Fan alliance is weaker in those states as a whole. In alabama, you are either an Auburn fan or Alabama....its that simple.
Ohio State and Michigan fans will complain about this however they should get use to playing second fiddle to the SEC teams. If SEC teams didnt beat each other every year an SEC team would win the Championship every year. Instead teams such as Ohio State and Michigan who play cupcake schedules play in the game. Thank god every major program has a loss this year.
Well back to my point. Alabama Vs Auburn has the strongest rivalry... period.

Oh no! This is gonna be interesting to see. Big Ten against SEC AGAIN! Well, I'm an Auburn fan, so I guess my opinion doesn't matter. I will tell you anyway.
My dad is from Ohio and grew up an Ohio State fan. He is into that rivalry. However, when I ask him about this topic, he says that it's Auburn/Alabama. I ask why and he just says that we people here in Alabama are crazy when that game comes around, lol.
You know I think Auburn/Alabama is THE best rivalry in ALL of sports, but when an Ohio native says that, it means a bit more. I also remember Sports Illustrated doing an article that also had the Iron Bowl over ALL rivalries in EVERY sport.

To me the greatest rivalry was in the Big 8. Nebraska vs Oklahoma.
Oklahoma leads the series, 41-37-3. These 2 teams were always battling for the Big 8 title.
The 1971 game was considered by many, the greatest college football game of all-time. 19 times during this series, one of these two teams have been rated #1.

counselordan - same old tired rant about beating up yourself,, once again I say EVERY conference can say that a conference game is a W and a L every time. SEC plays same type of teams Non Conference as Big 10, Big 12, pac 10 etc.. get over it.
to answer question... I would have to go with the Big 10 game, but I am biased I know,, all mentioned are great rivalries

USC & UCLA are the best.
Why?
We got more people who pay taxes to support our school.
1) Hollywood,
2) Universal Studio,
3) Disneyland,
4) All the millionaires, and billionaires in the United States lives in California.
Also, California is the 3rd largest state of America.
The one of the 1stMarathon in the United States which is Los Angeles Marathon.
We got the best governor Arnold Swarchenegger who will be the next United States President.
Best of all we got LAX - Los Angeles Airport, the largest Airport Transportation Overseas who pays billion of taxes.
Before you people get out of this country going West, you need to land in LAX.
Also, we got all multi-cultures in here, and we work as a multi-racial team.
Rest of the states in the United States has 1-5 Major Cultures which means only have 1-5 ways and behavior.
California has all the Cultures and Food in the Whole World!!!

Too many to count, but I've observed the Alabama/Auburn rivalry first person. In this state, you can't like both teams. It's either-or, even when they aren't playing each other. The tickets sell for thousands, wherever they play, the city shuts down, people get drunk and fight, it's just crazy! I love my sweet home Alabama!!!

USC & UCLA. The degree of excellent play, no matter what the records are showcases some of the most passionate gridiron action that I have ever seen.
Michigan & Ohio State as well Florida & Florida State come to mind as well, but the smashmouth, high scoring USC & UCLA games are always my favorite.

Kansas - Nebraska is the longest continuous rivalry... all other rivalries must therefore be inferior if they were not even important enough to play every year.
