I heard a question a little while ago and it got me thinking. The question was 'If you could ask god one question, what would it be?'. Now this question is deceptively simple, because 1. you are allowed to ask only one question and 2. once you had asked your question you would not get a second chance. Think about it, if you got a chance to ask a question of someone who knew everything, only one question ever, and you asked a stupid question you would have to live the rest of your life wondering what you could have found out, what secrets you could have known.
So my question is, If you could ask god only one question ever, with no limits on what subjects or secrets could be the topic, what would be your question?
P.S.
For any atheist or person who does not believe in a single deity, please replace god with any other concept you wish. PLEASE DO NOT say that you do not believe in god so therefore you can't answer, you will only waste everyone’s time and your answer will not be considered.
Thanks.

Personally, I would ask something like
"What is the answer to the question I should be asking if I knew the perfect question to ask?"
Just a thought.

I must admit that you have already given the 'Best' answer and we can only try for a next best.
My question to God would be as follows
Why did You not give us wisdom along with the 'freewill' in order to use it properly?

I'm an atheist, but I will oblige you with an answer, given how interesting the question is.
As I am pondering what questions I would ask, I am anticipating what answers may be given, and realizing that many questions would be of little value.
I think I would ask the following.
"With the goal of positively impacting sentient life on as far-reaching a level as possible, and within the limits I will ever be capable of achieving, what profession or activity would I be the most successful in devoting the remainder of my life toward?"
The answer to that would save a lot of wasted effort and possible regrets. And I'd live my life at least being content in knowing I was doing the best I could ever do, even if I didn't have all the answers to the mysteries of existence.
That is, assuming I actually received a valid answer to the question I asked, and assuming that god was actually what people claim god is.
Another tempting question would be, I believe, "What do I most need to know from you?" However, somehow I expect that most of the answers to the questions would end up being simply "love," or "forgive." Or maybe just a smile, or something else evident and simple.

Interesting Question.
Of course several questions spring to mind
1. What is the meaning of life?
2. Where does belly button lint come from?
3. Where can i buy the winning lottery ticket?
and so forth
but upon pondering you question further and much mental deliberation I would ask a question with which the answer would have to entertain me and offer me the elements of intrigue, facination and wonder.
So frankly I would ask god/ whatever what their deepest darkest secret was/ is?
As an atheist I would happily ask this of any religious entity no matter who it may be just for the enjoyment of finding out if they are indeed fallible / secrets that could be uplifting or hold crushing truths.
Anyway thanks for the question and i am curious to know what your question might be.

I think I would ask what are we like in the after life? The reason I would ask this is I have wondered in my mind if we are just spirits forever or what would we be or become. Yes it says in the Bible about how we should live our life so that we can be saved. but! What happens when we are safed? What do we become? Will we be that way forever or will there be a new heaven and earth with all of us upon it? The Bible really never has explained what we become when we are saved.

If I am able to see God and asked to ask a question, I will say to Him that I am fed up with the continuous cycle of birth, death and rebirth since several centuries and when shall I be liberated form this prison called world and be absorbed in him.

The one question I would ask God, if I could only ask one thing would be "Would You please forgive me for everything?"
As far as what secret thing I could have found out, I will know all things when I get to Heaven. But without His forgiveness, I can never get there!

I guess I would probably say something like you would...
What is the answer and question to the perfect question I could be asking you?
Sounds a little confusing, but... yeah.

Along your train of thought, I might ask if I could have two more questions!
"If you made man in the image of yourself, do you think you're a good person?"
I would have to give considerable thought before coming up with my one question, but one thing I would like to know is "Is there life existing anywhere else beside earth?"
