for the most part, there is no FDA regulation on bottled water... and there are more minerals that are actually good for you in tap water... I'd just get a water filter like a Pur or Brita pitcher and use tap water.

UNLESS you have well water, if you have well water keep buying bottled... nursery, spring, drinking, distilled - all better than well water.

What Is Nursery Water

Nursery water is fine, but unless there is issues with your water supply, it's just the same as getting water out of your tap. In fact, that is where nursery water comes from (there was a special on T.V. a year or so ago.) But there is no problem with the water if that's what you want to give him. We drink bottled water so if you want to do the same for you baby, that's fine. But also know that your tap water is perfectly fine for you baby. Hope that helps :)

Wow, I'm surprised so many people are saying give tap water (when mixing formula) to a 4wk old. I don't think that's right. Honestly, I didn't even know what nursery water until I just googled it as I breastfed but it's distilled/purified water that has had flouride added to it. This is going to be much better than tap water for your child... if you do use tap water, you must make sure you boil it. Tap water is fine for adults in almost all metropolitan cities, but a newborn has no where near the immunity an adult has - particularly a formula fed child. I grew up in Alaska and our tap water was better than a lot of bottled water on the maket (in fact they put it in bottles and sell it out of state) but not everyone is this fortunate. If you use tap water, I think you have to be conscious of how much flouride is in the water. That's the reasoning for using the nursery water, that the flouride content is being monitored. I know for my breastfed child I was told to give her a flouride supplement as she wouldn't be getting that via the water used to make her formula, but that isn't the case everywhere. I just read the article regarding too much flouride and that says no flouride before 6mths of age, limited amounts prior to 12mths. You'll get conflicting info, that is for sure, but I think tap water has way too much flouride in it for a baby. I think maybe bottled water is the best route if flouride isn't suppose to be given before 6mths, then nursery water once your baby is 6mths old. All so complicated, I know. Some bottled water contains too many minerals in it that a young baby can not tolerate, so make sure it says suitable for babies.

From the article I read on nursery water:
Choosing between boiling water and using safe distilled water for baby formula.
Many parents might wonder why they should use a safe distilled water for baby formula as opposed to boiling their own water. This is simply because boiling water, although it will remove some impurities, may leave behind many others 3. Nursery® Water makes sure that when you use steam distilled water for baby formula, not only has it gone through a stringent purification process, but that the proper amount of fluoride has been added for your child. Nursery® Water follows the strict guidelines set forth by the ADA recommending the optimal flouride level in drinking water is 0.7 - 1.2 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride for infants 4. The refreshing taste of Nursery® Water due to the extensive purification process will provide an added bonus as your child is sure to enjoy it.

Many Nursery Water's have added fluoride, which isn't recommended before the first year. Boiled tap water should be fine if you are worried about it.

Gerber is a business that knows that they can convince parents to buy all kinds of junk they don't need. Like special baby water.

my son is 3 months and I use nursery water and sometimes I buy just spring water in the jug to mix it up so he dont get to much flouride. Also, do not listen to the person who said tap water. DO you know what is in tap water? Stuff a baby can not tolerate but I see you know that hence you buying it :). Boiling seems like to much work to me so the jugs are wat easier. I even keep mine out at room temp to make it even quicker to make the bottle.

nursery water is fine. all the water does is mix the formula and makes the formula taste a different way so any water is fine even tap as long as it is okay to drink in your area so you might want to check on that. the only thing i can say is don't give your baby too much flouride it can ruin his/her teeth later on and I'm talking about OD on flouride a little is okay.

You can mix the formula with boiled or bottled water. If you boil the water, let it cool down for about 45 minutes and then make your bottles. I make my bottles at night and make enough for the next day which saves a lot of time.
