no not really........just figured if i put the real question in it would attract too many section bashers

ok, what i really wanted to ask is; do you really think no profanity = a better song? everyone rides chamillionaire for not cussing, but to me it doesnt really matter...sure, some people will go overboard, but as long as its a good song, it shouldnt matter at the end of the day if they use profanity or not, they're using their music to speak their mind..they shouldnt be discredited for that, and other rappers who dont cuss shouldnt be put so high on a pedestal because of that.....but thats just my opinion

I think songs with no cussing would bring perfection to hip hop. It's audience would be broadened and it would not have as many section bashers like you previously mentioned.

To me, the answer would be NO. Whether a song contains profanity or not, doesn't determine whehter it's a "better" song or not. I agree with the guy who said, it's all about expression. If a rapper can get his point across without the use of profanity, than great! If not, so be it. I tend to not like songs with TOO much profanity, but I won't dismiss it because of a few curse words here or there. I think people give too much power to these words. Their just words. I agree with you, that they should not be discredited for speaking their mind.

I think its cool if an artist just does it and doesnt make a big deal about it. Lupe Fiasco has like one cuss word on Food and Liquor, yet he didnt get near as much publicity about it as Chamillioniare, thats dumb. Lupe is a better artist, why should one artist get more credit than another artist for doing the same thing. And cussing is not a big deal, I hear more cussing in everyday life then on a rap cd, so explain the problem again... life is R rated, but we cant let our music be too, sounds a little hypocritical to me.

EDIT: and that was a dirty trick, I honestly was upset after reading the headline... could u imagine Soulja Boy and Nas, as good as Nas is, that woulda been enough for me not to get the album.

Well, what we have here is a failure to communicate. Whenever mentioning the best rappers, you have to have the ultimate Ebony & Ivory tandem. Vanilla Ice and Hammer. I mean they get left out of so many arguments. They were lyrically superior to any MC that has ever touched a mic, and both had dance moves that could make Michael Jackson change his sex and skin color. I mean Jibbs, MIMS, Hurricane Chris, and Soulja Boy are all in the running for takin the game over, but you can't for get where it all started.

Hell to the naw it doesnt matter...A lot of Rakim songs lack profanity. Its about the skills...if you a true hip hop head that wouldnt matter...and if you dont look for it you prolly wont even notice that especially if its a good album...Lupe lacks a lot of profanity and I think that his album was great...But at the same time that doesnt make them Bruce Almighty either if they dont curse...I just think that they are applauding these artist because its a change for the better or they feel it will start a trend amongst other rappers..Its gives that artist brownie points for being role model like and gives that artist the possibility of a broader audience.
I do think that some artist should limit their vocab from too much cursing because some of it is jus sooo unnessecary.dat all

its to the point now where most rappers don't have a strong enough vocab to make anything other than club shout songs and weak radio friendly garbage anyway. I remember when rap and hip hop used to actually have some valid points, decent rhymes, and lyrical content...now we just have a bunch of garbage like soulja boy (who isn't a soldier and from what i can tell doesn't have a soul) r-kelly, and lil john....its all garbage...the only decent stuff now is underground stuff you'll never hear anyway ...ie: aesop rock, cunninglinguyst, del, etc...
as far as the swearing stuff goes...if it fits in the song then great, more power to ya...if its just a blatant excuse to come off as hard or "gangsta" then its waste, but the majority of it just goes back to having little or no vocab to use in the first place.

I dont know about everybody ridin Chamillionaire for not cussin... maybe a couple here and there, but it aint that big of a deal... I agree with you though, sometimes artists got that anger pent up inside and thats just what people do when they're angry, they cuss... and I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of rappers cussin, like cussin aint a part of everyday life or somethin... its honestly people out there who have cussin in they regular vocabulary, and sayin a cuss word for them aint no different from "hello" or "goodbye", but when a rapper do it they shocked and appalled- thats that bullsh*t

It's all about expression. Now that I'm grown I could care less if I have the clean or edited version of a song. To me the content can be worse than any word someone says. Ex: DMX once had a song about rapeing someone's underage daughter in front of them. But any 8 year old can buy that CD as long as it dosen't have a Parental Advisory sticker on it. That's what's sad.

I agree, so long as they're not engaging in self-censorship. If they're not really using their own language because they're trying to conform to someone's idea of proper English, then I think they are shortchanging their art.

If they're using tons of profanity in a way that no one would ever speak or think, then I think (unfortunately) that they are prostituting themselves and producing the kind of crap that most people who hate rap associate with all rap music.

good i was about to go kill myself

well i think it makes it better to listen to when youre in the prescence of young ones and adults who dont approve of it, but for me, as long as the song isnt wack, profanity doesnt matter. i dont like when they keep on saying it just because they can, i guess. but for the most part, as long as it isnt going overboard (used your analogy) with the profanity, then its ok, because honestly, i cuss sometimes when i talk, so id be a hypocrite if i were to bash someone cussing in a song.

nah, i think profanity has no effect on the overall song... if the song is good, and has lots of cussing, ill still listen

lmao the title of the question scared me so much
