I dont think they advertise until Thanksgiving day, I am always sure to get that paper so I can see what spots to hit and which one first to last. Look at the ads on Thanksgiving and look to see what you plan to purchase and that should help you figure out how much money to take with you.

I agree that you should have your list of gifts that you need/want to buy with the respective sales. The best way is to buy the Sunday paper the Sunday before Thanksgiving, it's like the heaviest paper of the year and also the Wednesday paper usually has a bunch. In the St. Louis area and surrounding counties, we get a free journal that is also chocked full of sale ads. Some of the websites' stores listings are removing and threatening to sue them for posting any info about the sales. I know a lot of people do their shopping on the internet but my credit card number got stolen that way a few years ago so I choose to do my shopping in person.

Yes there are sites that will tell you what's going to be on sale ahead of time, however [at least in my area] they only release that on the day/week of thanksgiving you can check their websites on those dates as well. I'd bring at least 200 dollars because you never know what you're going to find, I would even bring more if I was going to that many stores however I'd make sure that I went to the store with the best deals first and from my shopping experience it's either walmart or target, they both have the best deals cause they're competing with each other.

Remember to have fun, it can get very competitive, arrive early to get the best deals.

Ah, I LOVE Black Friday! I would take as much money as you can. Make a list and schedule. Set the alarm for 3am and go!
A couple websites do have the deals up early:

also,

Other than that the flyers usually come out in Thursdays (Thanksgiving day) paper. Maybe a very few in the days beforehand.
Good Luck! Happy Shopping!

Get a newspaper on Thanksgiving, or the Sunday before Thanksgiving. That is when the Black Friday ads get put out. You can also go to the individual store websites on Thnaksgiving Day to see thee ads online. The benefit of getting the newspaper is that you can get the coupons that aren't available online.

As for money...On busy shopping days like Black Friday, I don't like to carry cash on me because someone can see you pull your money out in one store & judge how much you have, and rip you off. I had my wallet stolen 2 years ago, and luckily, my credit cards & important stuff was in my pocket, so they only got $5, but it could have been a lot worse. As a result, I'm now cynical about carrying large amounts of cash when I go shopping. Bring a credit/debit card & all of the coupons you can find & you should be in good shape.

www.blackfridayads.com tells you what's going to be on sale in most of these stores on the day after Thanksgiving, so you can plan how much to spend now. But you never know what unadvertised deals you will find in the store. So, set a budget then bring a lil extra; For those things....."Oooo, that's on sale, that'll be great for ____" I know that the above site has already posted the ads for Target, Toys R Us, Circuit City, and Best Buy...they may be more but those are the one I looked at. And the Wal-Mart ads will be on that site on Nov 19, as per a cease and desist(?) order Wal Mart sent them.

You should take whatever money you have to spend on christmas gifts. But make sure you sit down beforehand and make a list and write down about how much you want to spend on people and some ideas for what to buy for them. For example, if I know I want to buy eight gifts and I want to spend $25 on each person, I would take $200 with me. For deals, make sure you watch your mailbox. The week of Thanksgiving tons of flyers will be sent out to advertise the sales. Have fun!
