It can be typed, but it may need to be on a letterhead, and it may need to be signed.

It can be typed or hand written. But it DOES need to be HAND SIGNED by someone in authority. Also, make sure it's dated and company letterhead would be best, although it's not required.

When someone says they need something "in writing" what you're really after is physical proof of an agreement or terms. How it's written out and on what material is inconsequential. It could be written on a napkin.

It just needs to be on paper - crayon, type, blood, anything will do, as long as it is on paper (or stone, or wood, etc.).
