It helps if you have a reason for staying up. Whether it's the fact that your teammates are counting on you, or you just have to do something important, or you're in the middle of something that's going to take a few hours, or you're almost done with the single-player mode of a game, if you have a reason, you have no problems staying up. It's not something gamers do every night though.

I usually play video games in the late hours because it's the only spare time I have. With college and work, an hour or two in the late evenings is my only chance to get some quality gaming in, and I'm quite a bit older than you. I'm 32.

Oh yeah, caffeine helps. I usually drink a cup of coffee when I start my late-hour gaming.

it really depeds on the game i'm playing, personally. If it's got a pretty engaging story i can stay up playing it until i get to a part i either can't figure out or that is way too hard for me at the time. Then I sleep for a mass amount of time haha

The first step is to sleep past noon. After that, if you're sufficiently engaged in the game (or programming project, etc.) and have enough caffiene and/or energy drinks, you can easily stay up all night. Also, once the sun comes up, staying awake becomes much easier.
