Well first we would have to explain nothingness. Since what is really nothing if it is something we can define? I would say something must have always existed. There is no such thing as infinite regress in my book, but I could be wrong. Either way I don't think we have any way of knowing if something has always existed since we would have to exist before time even began. But it is even questionable if time has always exists. Some people will say it doesn't because time implies movement. But I'm not sure, its an interesting question to ask.

"Since the Universe is God's creation ..."
That is a matter of opinion. I think it could also be stated, "Since God is the Universe's creation ...". Yet I prefer this, "Since the Universe is Our creation ..."
Thus my answer to that statement is this. What is something? What is nothing? Could both be the same thing? Yes perhaps. If so, then this implies all that is, all that ever was, and all that will be have always been here. It just changes form as Our belief changes. An idea creates the form. The form is something out of nothing. Something is nothing, nothing is something.

Something from nothing is called "ex nihilo."
"In Western monotheism, especially the monotheisms of the Abrahamic tradition, God is conceived to be both the creator and sustainer of all that exists. Such a conception yields doctrines of creation and conservation, where the first concerns the origin of things and the second the continued existence of things. Though the doctrine of creatio ex nihilo (creation out of nothing) has longstanding centrality in this understanding, by the time of Aquinas, concerns over the possibility of the universe itself existing from eternity led to thinking of creation out of nothing as the generic category of which initial creation and continued sustenance are species.
"These doctrines and developments involve several areas of philosophical concern. In what follows, these concerns will be discussed under the following topic headings. First, there is the concern of separating theism from deism and the relationship between each and a scientific conception of the world. Second, there is a question of the relationship between the two doctrines, whether they are logically distinct doctrines or simply different descriptions of the same fundamental divine activity."

The Universe in which we live, of which our physical octave is a lowest-vibrating part, is one of a large number of Universes spun out of a central Hub; there is more than one Hub. Each of our Hub's Universes orbits around our Hub much as electronic orbitals around a nucleus.
The Hub is a Spirit-aspect intensity region of divine Mind, that Mind which was also in Christ Jesus, albeit the latter "in miniature." Each spirit-spark is endowed by God with a miniature portion of Godhead, which may be infinitely increased per right choice, right desire, and exercise of ability to choose.
What occurs during a creation process: God, Mind, Truth, Energy, Light...are in degrees extended, stepped down, geometrized per creative intelligence, in "uncountable" "orbital paths" which hold particularized intelligent Light. This is a level of spiritual magnetism and intention, power and love, which is a "flux" permeating the whole of Cosmos. It extends outward, coalescing and building into atomic, molecular, and cellular levels.
Soul-individuation or soulfield is an extension of One Mind Soul, and inasmuch as Soul Is Mind, man's awareness is intended and indeed able to move beyond 5-sense classical Newtonian data streaming, e.g. in psi, out-of-body, and other states-specific awareness. Soulfield coherency, awareness of Self, permits this, and is developed per recognized protocols, e.g. Saint Teresa of Avila's "Interior Castle" contemplation, Paramahansa Yogananda's kriya yoga, kabbalahistic practices, Taoist immortal body exercises, and so on. Dr. William Tiller's SU(2) quantum model, with ample accurate proof, http://www.tiller.org is noteworthy. His latest book is "Psychoenergetic Science."
Dr. Elizabeth Mayer's "Extraordinary Knowing" and Lynne McTaggart's "The Field" explore current mainstream biophysics and other work of interest which provide somewhat limited, somewhat reductionistic scientific models for the general protocol schema.
Also worth reading: "The Masters and Their Retreats," Mark Prophet; "The Master of Lucid Dreams," Olga Kharitidi, M.D.; "Watch Your Dreams," Ann Ree Colton; "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com "Entangled Minds," Dean Radin, Ph.D., "Man's Subtle Bodies and Centres" and "Light Is a Living Spirit," O. Well, if we new the answer we would ascend to God's level which is impossible. There are some questions we cannot answer, and those that do are only guessing. After all ,God did say "My ways are not your ways".
