First of all look at http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/youngworkersrights/starting_work.html and http://www.thesource.gov.au
A great site based for young people. 12 - 25 yrs old.

Generally it is 14 1/2 to work, but you can work earlier as long as your have your parent’s permission.
Coles, Woolworth's, IGA, K-mart, Target, Big W, The Warehouse.
Any fast food places, McDonald's, KFC etc - they all take on casual staff.
Smaller takeaway shops, like Pizza, Pasta etc... they are always taking on casual staff for kitchen hands, serving customers etc ....

- Most of the places above you apply online on their websites, look for a link 'careers' or 'employment'. You fill in what area you want to work etc, and they will email you jobs coming up, you can pick and choose, if you accept they will call you in for an interview.

Get a job at the local library. they should be open after school and weekends. Holidays, I'm not so sure of. Grocery store or fast food would be your best bet, there. But I recommend the library. Even putting books on the shelves, you get paid, you meet people, it's quiet....and you get to read! If that's what you're into....
