I'm 16, average guy.
So I met this friend online on a social network randomly and it has almost been a month. We like to talk to each other and it is my birthday next week. She asked me for my mailing address so she can send me something as I live in Canada and she lives in America.
I'm still wondering if i should. I need some help. If I give it to her, what can she possibly do with it? Can I be in danger of any kind? Please, I don't know what to do. Declining it wouldn't be nice, but I don't want to cause any problems. Please help. Thank you.

A US Television show called "20/20" did many exposes' on these exact questions, "should I or should I not. The best is to use a post office box someone else has, but even that can be stalked by someone watching from a car.
When in doubt, don't do it. There are many relationships made on the Internet, some turn out okay, but some, such as a recent incident left a young lady dead as she answered an ad for a Nanny Position.
If this person gives you there telephone number, you can do a "reverse lookup for the name and address.
Better be safe than sorry, which can result in death or injury.
Hate to break it to you that way, but truth be known up front.

if you give your true address, the person has the first step to gaining more personal information, phone number, family member information. Set up a post office box so there is a protective wall between you and that person until you have more time to figure her out. Just insurance. You never know who's got obsessive tendancies that can turn into stalker tendancies. Think of it like using a temporary email address to receive something because you don't yet know if a web site is legit or not. Proxy accounts function in the same way.

Best safe than sorry. In the first place you don't know for sure that this person is actually a female. "She" could actually be putting up someone else's pic also. (Hey, for all you know she could be a one-eyed cylcops with the creeping crud). Could be some pedophile and WE ALL KNOW ABOUT THEM. For all YOU know this person could actually live in Taiwan or wherever.
Just because you met "her" online does not mean you have to be nice. Decline the gift and explain why.
If "she" gives you her address ask her for her phone number or whatever. But don't take it for granted that she's a "she".

sorry to say this but NEVER give out your address to anyone on the Internet there are way too many examples of stalkers this girl could actually be a guy or anything else tell her you think her friendship on line is the best gift you could receive that way you do not have to give out your address and she will be flattered

It's not a good idea to give out personal information on the net. They may be nice in the cyber world but in real life it may be a different story. Best to just leave online..online...

Maybe you should use a P.O. box, so you're safe. If you don't have one, you should ask for some more info on her so make sure she's not fake.
