~Read about what he did to the Seminoles and Cherokee. That alone should tell you all you need to know. That he owned slaves shouldn't be held against him. He could afford them at it was a normal thing to do, even for 'the representative of the common man.' The guy he killed because AJ thought the man had slurred his wife might question his morals somewhat, and the dozens with whom he brawled (as a matter of honor) might shed some insight on the man. He was a ruthless as he was vindictive and woe to the poor soul that crossed him. John C. Calhoun did and Jackson threatened to hang him. Calhoun had reason to worry, given the circumstance of his executions of Robert Ambrister and Alexander Arbuthnot. Albert Gallatin, former Secretary of the treasury, said of Jackson that he was

"an honest man and the idol of the worshippers of military glory, but from incapacity, military habits, and habitual disregard of laws and constitutional provisions, altogether unfit for the office [of president]."

Whether or not he had something going with Margaret O'Neale Eaton or not is pure speculation, but the circumstantial case that he did is fairly strong.

His role in causing the Panic of 1837 may address his judgment more than his morals, but to deliberately destroy the economic structure of an entire nation must say something about morality.

He does hold the dubious distinction of being the first president against whom an assassination attempt was made.

He was not a nice person.
