My recommendations are:

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
The Uglies series by Scott Westerfield
Mary, Mary by James Patterson
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

Hope I helped.

If you're ready to graduate from Harry Potter into the realms of Epic Fantasy, then pick up the Belgariad series by David Eddings, starting with "Pawn of Prophecy." "The Sword of Shannara" by Terry Brooks is also a fairly good choice, though the later books in the Shannara series are better. Other authors who are just as good, if not Much better, include Michael Stackpole, Timothy Zahn, R. A. Salvatore, Steve Erickson, and Patrick Rothfuss. That should give you a good start.

Try the Artemis Fowl series. He starts out as a young teenager but morphs into a kinda shaman. Lots of action and dealings with the fairy whelm - has some well delivered humor.

There was one book I read awhile back called Inkheart or something like that. It isn't about wizards but it was a very good book.
