I plan on applying the qualities I learned from him in my studies by persevering, even when things become difficult.

Of course, it needs to be in your words to catch your personality. The specific wording, however, is subject to various phrasing selections by you.

You wrote:
"i will apply his good qualities in my study by being courageous,
not giving' up at times of problems "

What about something like:
One might be tempted to ignore his good qualities when writing about ______ but I have attempted to employ the necessary courage for a fair assessment as one of the criteria in my final evaluation.

Or:
Writing about ______ in any positive manner requires the courage to seek out and recognize any qualities _______ might have that we might regard as being desirable, this in order to deliver a fair and reasoned judgment.

It would help if I knew the purpose of the sentence.

I did not read your sentence as you writing something difficult and needing the courage to finish inspired by some mentor; I read it as you writing about someone about whom it is difficult to be positive.
