You were told wrong. Just who told you that? No, hummers maybe small but they have time on their side. They make the round trip all on their own.
Just how is it a hummingbird is supposed to do such a thing? How is it that another bird is gonna allow a hitchhiker? You see it is illogical. Just plain does not make sense.

No. They migrate on the wing just like other birds.
