A tween is someone who is between a teenager and a child- like a preteen.

"a girl ages about 9-14...too old for toys, but too young for boys"

Tweens are simply pre-teens. Age group from about 9 or 10 thru 12 or 13.

Tween is between kid and teenager. 10, 11, 12 years old. not quite a teenager.
