1. Agree - in large part this may come down to personal preference, but I feel that rock, as a genre, displays the most variety and complexity.
2. Disagree - a lot of popular music is bad, but there are also plenty of bad bands/artists around who never get anywhere.
3. Agree - if a band's success depends on anything other than the quality of their music, then they're most likely not a serious band.
4. Agree - there are a number of artists whose music I don't like, but still respect, though I can't think of any right now.
5. Disagree - personally, vocals are one of the most important aspects of music. It's essential that the singer has a distintive voice for the band to really appeal to me.
6, Disagree - the best way to explain this is with "catchy" songs. There have been plenty of times when songs I hate but that have a catchy maelody and end up getting stuck in my head.
7. Disagree - lyrics absolutely do matter. In fact they're just as important as the music itself.
8. Disagree - unfortunately, there are an awful lot of people who think this is true. They only reason they do is that the only bands from that era that people remember are the ones good enough to stand the test of time. When people look back on today's music years from now, they'll remember the Arcade Fires and Radioheads, not the Fall Out Boys and MCRs
9.Agree - in theory I agree, although in truth there are genres with few to no talented bands.
10. Agree - at least not in the neat future. However, there have been a number of bands who have come pretty close already, and it's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility fof it to happen somewhere down the line.
11. Disagree - i love the Beatles, and only disagree because "best" is a subjective term.
12. Disagree - a song doesn't have to have the same structure as, for example, a book or film. It can chronicle a specific time or even feeling, and have no beginning or end. There don't need to be characters or plot or conclusion, although there can be.
13. Disagree - some of the best, and most well loved songs are very simple in structure. I do agree in the sense that generally, some form of complexity is important, though it doesn't have to be instrumental. Lyrical complexity often takes precendence over musical complexity.
14. Disagree - this kind of relates back to #3.
15. Disagree - there are far too many irrelevant, throw-away bands to make this true.

7 Lyrics don't really matter. disagree, try telling John Lennon or Tom Waits that!

9 No genre is bad, artists just ruin it. agree 100%
10 A success like the Beatles will never be duplicated. agree for the most part.

10 A success like the Beatles will never be duplicated. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 60S AND TODAY IS THAT THERE THERE WERE 8000 ALBUMS RELEASED PER YEAR COMPARED TO TODAY'S 65,000. THE ABILITY TO HAVE LONGEVITY IS GONE DUE TO THAT FACT.

1. Agree, it appeals to me the most, I like the way it makes me feel, and I can relate to a lot of it.
2. Disagree, lots of crappy music stay underground.
3. Disagree, it takes a lot to be a good band.
4. Agree, I understand a lot of artists I detest actually have talent, I just hate their music for personal reasons.
5. I'm confused, I don't think a singer has to be conventionally good to be a great singer. If it fits the music and lyrics I couldn't care less about how good it is by conventional standards.
6. Agree, if it doesn't sound good I'm not listening to it, music and sound are the same thing, so good sound = good music. But that's subjective, and it goes back to I could still respect artists I don't like.
7. Disagree, it depends. A band where the sound is the most important might have weak lyrics and get away with it, and some songs have weak music because they're lyrically driven, which is fine too, a combination of good lyrics and music is best though.
8. Agree, there is still good, great, and fantastic new music, but there was a lot more to explore back then, so many new ideas, so many revolutions, a lot of todays best is just reworkings of the old styles.
9. Disagree, some entire genres are just not my cup of tea. I will probably never like anything called death metal for example. I won't explain too much because it would take pages.
10. Disagree, solely on the principle that no one can/should make predictions like that. It will be harder, but it's possible.
11. Disagree, they were a good, occasionally great band, but definitely not the best or most original.
12. Disagree, there are a lot of songs that don't mean anything at all and are great for a sense of humour or just they way they sound.
13. Disagree, the more sincere the music is the better it is. Complexity doesn't do anything for me, in the end it's the message the sound gets across that is important, and it's been proved time and time again that you don't need anymore than two or three chords to make a fantastic song, complexity doesn't hurt, but just being complex doesn't make a good song.
14. Disagree, they're just misled. I love Rancid's music but hate their stereotypical Exploited style cartoon punk look.
14. Disagree, I couldn't say which is the highest. Although music is my favorite, they all have their merits.

8. Agree. It was.
9. Agree. That's definitely true.
10. Agree. Yep.
11. Agree. Like them or not, they got impact and influence on their side.
12. Agree, but there are some songs that are good that just stay the same and go nowhere.
13. Disagree. Simple music is sometimes better than complex music (Ramones!).
14. Disagree, but that's usually the case.
15. Agree. It's quite complex even in the most simple cases.
