I just recently bought a 97 Firebird and when I bought it it ran fine, but after i had it for a few days it seemed like it lost power when driving and it shakes ALOT, also it refuses to rev over 3RPMs. Not just when im driving I can sit in the driveway with it in park just reving the engine and it stops at 3RPMS. Ive replaced the fuel filter, the airfilters clean, my oil is full, im out of ideas.

First off, when you are sitting in your driveway, and it won't rev over 3000 RPMs, that is because it is designed to do that. The car has a rev limiter, to keep you from blowing your engine. The rev limiter does not function while you are driving. If you are driving along, usually at highway speeds, and the car starts acting like it is misfiring, won't rev past a certain point, and feels like it has lost power, it could be a bad Duraspark Ignition module if you have the 5.7 engine. If it is a 3.8, it could be a bad ignition coil pack, or ignition control module. The Durasparks are bad for the condition you describe. It is located behind the water pump, and is driven by the cam. The spark plug wires attach to either side of it. The Duraspark not a fast and easy task, but is most likely your problem, especially if it only happens under load at highway speeds and at a certain RPM.

initially, once you're sitting on your driveway, and it won't rev over 3000 RPMs, this is because of the fact's designed to do this. the motor vehicle has a rev limiter, to maintain you from blowing your engine. The rev limiter would not function once you're making use of. in case you're making use of alongside, oftentimes at street speeds, and the motor vehicle starts off performing love that's misfiring, won't rev previous a undeniable factor, and appears like it has misplaced ability, this is a bad Duraspark Ignition module in case you have the 5.7 engine. even though if that's a three.8, this is a bad ignition coil %., or ignition administration module. The Durasparks are undesirable for the condition you describe. that's placed at the back of the water pump, and is pushed by making use of the cam. The spark plug wires connect with the two ingredient of it. The Duraspark no longer a rapid and uncomplicated activity, yet is maximum in all likelihood your venture, surprisingly if it purely happens below load at street speeds and at a undeniable RPM.

'Eliminating Knock Retard'
The first run we made looked exactly like the previous Auto Tap logs. At 3,000 rpm's the 'knock retard' showed up like an unwanted guest.
