I support the 2nd amendment AS WELL AS the rest. Yet those who speak so vigorously about gun ownership, do not seem as concerned about the rest of the Bill of Rights linked below.

CFB (below) False logic. If the 2nd is so important to protect the others, that means the others are worth protecting. Yet 2nd amendment advocates do not protect the others as vocally as they do the 2nd. You can NOT have it both ways.

G-Man (below) I'm sorry. I have not yet had my rights frightened out of me. Where can I go to do so? Fox News?

The wisdom behind the Constitution is totally amazing. As for the Patriot Act, wire tapping, and search and seizure the Intelligence department of the government was challenged to overcome the obstacles they did to themselves and those that could have prevented 9-11. This was the result. If this is unreasonable to the majority of Americans then it should be abolished and at the same time a no fault status should fall upon the Intelligence department should another similar attack occur.

There are many 2nd Amendment advocates who defend the rest of the Constitution as well. Some examples would be groups like the Cato Institute or politicians like Ron Paul.
Of course, many people who stand up for the 2nd amendment aren't particularly political, they just value gun ownership. It's understandable that they wouldn't get fired up about the rest of the Constitution, since they probably don't know much about it.
The same thing happens with artists and writers who support the 1st amendment, or privacy advocates who stress the 4th amendment. They do so because they have a personal stake in the liberties protected by those amendments. Outside of that area of personal interest, they aren't really concerned about other unConstitutional acts. It's not often that you hear a free speech advocate complain about Congress's abuse of the Commerce Clause or a medical privacy advocate standing up for 2nd amendment rights.

Many activists tend to pick a single cause to fight for. Not because they don't care about anything else, but simply because focusing on one issue with dedication is more likely to work.
I support the 2nd Amendment, and, just here on Y!A, you'll also hear me defending the 1st and 14th, just for example.

no clue.
i would like to challenge them to explain how their little pea shooters are going to protect the rest of our freedoms, from the massive military spending, they support, if their reasoning for crying so much about the 2nd admendment, comes to pass.
Do they really think even a desert eagle is any match for a few hundred apache helecopters?
Or maybe they think with their super human powers they are going to take on several hundred M1A1's with a glock 9mm?
All of the rights provided by the US Constitution are like legs on a bridge if one of them collapses, they all will.
The people you are speaking of spend too much time crying about the 2nd amendment, while licking the boots of our politicians on every other decision.

I've expressed this 100 times already and I'll do it again. How has you life been affected or anybody you know? Second, we are in a war for survival, know what that means? I'm not worried about sacrificing something that will never affect me or many Americans until the crisis is over. In this war, America has to change to survive, get used to it.

hahaha, excellent point!
because if the right wing nut read that little document they would also see that we are guaranteed a speedy/fair trial, a jury of peers, no cruel/unusal punishment, etc. etc. and if they fought for that as much that would conflict with the stupid right wing inventions of today like:
-secret torture sites in other countries
-torture period as a method of "getting information"
-patriot act (i.e. kept without lawyer seeing you for like 2 years)
-the ones who said that the black boy who shot the white girl in flint, michigan should be "hung from the highest tree"
-the ones who think we'll kill our way out of the problems in Iraq and Afghanistan and soon to be Iran!
also how can you right wingers say this!? you gave up rights but you don't care or notice nor does anybody you know so it must be cool, people did notice, like valerie plame, or that one arab guy they kidnapped and tourtured for 2 years and then realized he was the wrong guy, it was on 60 minutes...
the quote that relates to this wonderfully is this: "when the came to take the blacks away I said nothing, when they came to take the jews away I said nothing, when they came take the catholics away I said nothing, and when they came to take me away there was nobody to stand with me...."
peace to all!
