My son did this and it was a sign that he was ready for food. I know alot of peopel disagree, but he would trash around like crazy on the breast and was becoming more restless. I didnt' start him on food just than. But I did at 4 months old and since than he now nurses calmly (and I do have enough milk and it does come out fast enough, so I know that is not it)

Your baby can react like this for many reasons.
Around 3 to 4 months old, babies go through another growth spurt. This could be one reason.
He could also be teething, have thrush (even if this does not hurt you), have an infection (cold, ear infection, for example), be distracted or scared by something (did you yell because he bit you?) Does his bottom hurt from a dirty diaper or a rash? Resolving the cause of the pain will help, for sure.
If he chokes when he is feeding, this is because the flow is too fast or too strong. You could have a strong let down: if this is true, nurse him more often, and/or find a way to place him higher than the nipple while at the breast. There are other tricks that could help you... search for info about strong let-down reflex.
If your milk flows not fast enough, your baby might prefer that you are placed in a higher position so the milk flows faster.
You may also need to rest and keep on napping as you used to before.
Hormones can cause a reaction like this too (like when ovulating). But before thinking of the hormonal cause, be sure to seek for support and help, and search the basic causes first. The hormonal cause is less frequent than the above ones.
Good luck and keep on : this behavior will not last forever.

It can be a number of possibilities, you have to eliminate them one by one.
1) Coming to fast
Try giving only 1 side by nursing
2) Empty?
Unlikely.
Maybe the latch has to be perfected
3) Cranky?
Might be gas or colics
4) Baby might be teething.
Some baby are teething forever and sucking is massaging the gums, therefore helping them relieve the pain.

My daughter did this and we finally figured out she didn't like some of the things I was eating. Most particularly, pork products, like ham or pork chops. I ate a lot of ham sandwiches in those days, and she'd refuse to nurse, and cry herself crazy. La Leche League helped me to figure it out, and to keep nursing anyway.
Turns out she's a bit of a super-taster (she's 14 now) and still won't eat any pork products.
3 months is too young for food, I really wouldn't act on that bit of advice. Have you been in touch with La Leche League? They should be able to have someone on the phone with you within an hour if you're really having trouble.

My daughter did this as well, around 3 months. And I couldn't figure it out. She would nurse and then tense up and cry and get really mad, and then try and nurse again. Turns out, it was my diet. Took awhile to figure out what it was, but it was garlic and other spices I was using. It does take awhile, but you have to keep track of what you eat and maybe eliminate certain foods until you figure it out. La Leche League can help you and give you some ideas.

try getting comfy relax and sooth your baby, hold him in nursing position that works for both off you, support your breast with your hand as you may have learned, have alot of healthy snacks and drinks that will help you too produce more milk and talk too your baby that is your time together.

he might be mad because he isn't getting enough milk or he might not be able to latch on good enough. when you pump are you getting a good supply?
