I see two issues. First, while I'm not certain the motherboard would support the Core 2 duo I would doubt it.
Suppose it does. The next problem would be the OS. Once you make a substantive change, it won't boot without installing a new version--with a new license.

nicely, Im an AMD guy. yet I had single center, and upgraded to twin w/o a mobo replace. I did despite the fact that verify my manufacturers website, and found out if the board replaced into in a position to assist the processor boost. As evrybody knows about how to upgrade a Processor...
First Buy a new Mother board that could hold your "Core 2 Duo" proccesssor...to start with
evrything follows ...
You can't just change Proccessors to add to your OLD Mother board it won't fit...

The answer is NO.
You need to have a new motherboard supporting Core2Duo. Otherwise, system crash and hang-up would be so often that you wouldn't accept it.

with that amount of RAM I would think abt upgrading the RAM first instead of the CPU(which wouldn't go on your current motherboard anyway)
