You are trying to compare grape-flavoured Kool-Aid powder to frozen grapes...

1. Logically fresh is better than frozen, but only if you're comparing the same thing. Breast milk is best, and fresh breast milk is probably a bit better than frozen. As another poster said, there is nothing "fresh" about infant formula. It is canned or powdered and nowhere near as good a nutrition source for babies as breast milk.

2. Yes, store it in the freezer with other food items, in its sterile bag it will be fine.

3. NO, breast milk should never be boiled. It destroys the nutrients, everything the baby needs. Baby calves fed pasteurized cows milk don't live either, and pasteurization isn't even at the boiling point.

4. Please consult your pediatrician about all these matters. They are too important for this forum/

There's nothing like going to the source. Milk produced by the mother that bore the baby is, in most cases, the best nourishment a baby could get. In a way, it's custom made by nature for that particular baby with all the colostrum & natural antibodies that the baby needs from the mother in order to form it's own healthy immune system.
1. Fresh from the mother's breast is better than frozen yet, the mother's & or human milk is usually far better than milk of another speceise (cow or goat).
2. Yes it can but, please note that this is largely dependent upon choosing an adequate & proper container. Also, the containers you use for breast milk should be exclusively used for breast milk & nothing else.
3. I personally think that boiling is not an absolute necessity. Boiling before storage (pasteurization) may help increase shelf life though.
Also, it's highly important to make thorough considerations as to the diet of the mother (for nutritional ballance in the milk as well as, it's taste being agreeable to the baby) and consult a doctor about any medications the mother uses or may use.

My lactation consultant said that the milk is fine frozen for up to 4 months in a proper sterile bag like Gerber bags worked great and if all the parts that you use on your pump have been boiled or cleaned in scalding hot water including the bottle! That the milk still has more nutritional value than formula. No the milk doesn't need to be boiled and the best way to heat it is putting the bag in a hot cup of water you should NEVER microwave or boil a baby's milk because it may feel cool to the touch but there may be some molecules that are still scalding hot with may cause severe burns which may result in hospitalization!

Hi there,

1) Yes, generally speakibg.

But this is like telling that fresh Coca-Cola is better than frozen milk!!!

Formula is full of artificial stuff your baby does not really need to grow up.

2) Yes, no problem at all

3) No, no, no!

Breast milk is perfect, it does not need to be boiled.

No need to boil it, just store it in a special congelation Ziploc bag (by Gerber) (up to 3 months in a freezer)

Let it thaw in the fridge or under running water, never in the microwave.

In some rare case, the milk tastes sour after a few hours. (put a sample in the fridge, taste it after 18 hours to know if it is the case for your milk)

All you have to do is to heat it gently (just to make it a bit warm, no boiling at all) and to store it ASAP in the fridge or freezer

Maternal milk is the best thing for babies, you wont regret your choice

1. Yes, fresh is better than frozen so fresh breastmilk would be better than frozen. Formula is far from fresh. It is made from cow's milk (or soy) that has been dried, processed, has things taken out of it, has other things added etc. Plus it has been sitting on the store shelf for weeks (possibly months) before you bought it.
2. Yes.
3. No, that would destroy the antibodies in it. If correctly stored in the freezer and thawed properly, it should be almost as good as fresh breastmilk.

1) Yes, fresh IS better than frozen - but because of how much healthier/better breastmilk is, it's still better than formula after being frozen. For example, a healthy dinner that has been frozen is far better for you than fast food.

2) Yes. It should be kept in the back of a fridge or freezer, but it doesn't really matter what is stored around it.

3) Breastmilk should *never* be boiled. It destroys nutrients and antibodies. It should be heated in warm water (not a microwave) and slowly swirled to mix it.

Breast milk is good for babies. It is not good to frozen breast as may not fresh enough. Although more doctors mAY advice THE frozen breast milk, but i personally advice not to frozen it or boil it from the COOL.

Breast milk have more substains from the mothers and I belief that the formula milk are using chemicals to treated a milk power to be rich. Dun forget direct breast feeding is better then any other kind or ways of feeds.

there is nothing "fresh" about formula in the first place. and it's not milk.

Yes, frozen breast milk is better. it still contains all the nutrients a baby needs. no, it doesn't need to be boiled

1. In most circumstances yes. But so is natural versus artificial... in this case, "frozen natural" is better than "fresh fake"

2. LOL... it's not fecal matter!! It's milk. OSHA does not consider it hazardous waste, nor should your fridge. You can soak your veggies in it if you want and serve it to the whole family... they'd be healthier for it!

3. NO, because you'd kill the live antibodies who are being "brought back to life" when it is gently thawed and warmed... just like when they freeze embryos - they're still viable... so are the live cells in breastmilk if you boil it, you kill them.

Why do I keep seeing this dumb question? How can an artificial powder be fresh? No matter when or how you mix it it's still not fresh. And of course some frozen stuff can be better.
